What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? Not this time! We’re giving you the inside scoop on the WPPI convention and a preview of our talented speaker team’s topics. We’re excited that Khara Plicanic will be joining us to share her strategy and techniques for doing more with books.
Session Information
Monday, February 20 at 11:30 am – Books – They’re Not Just for Weddings!
Looking for a simple way to build buzz and keep clients coming back year after year, all without breaking a sweat? Do more for less, with books!
Now, how about we learn more about this fabulous lady behind the lens…
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a wedding photographer based in the heartland (get it?) of Lincoln, Nebraska. I run my business as a one-woman show and am totally obsessed with workflow, any excuse to travel and all things covered in chocolate.
What’s your favorite Miller’s or MpixPro product?
My favorite product is the Custom Framing option available through MpixPro. When my first order came (a fine art print I was donating to a local fundraiser), I opened it and was like, “Are you serious?! Wow!” I ended up keeping that one for myself and ordering a second to donate to the auction. I’ve been in love ever since!
What do you love most about being a photographer?
Why do I love being a photographer? You mean besides getting to work from home in my pajamas when I’m not shooting? (Wait—did I seriously just admit to that?) In all seriousness, being part of this industry is an incredible honor. Making clients happy while expressing ourselves creatively? Yes, please! It’s amazing when you stop and think about it. I still have to pinch myself on a regular basis just to make sure I’m not dreaming.
What’s your favorite memory so far from WPPI?
Two words: Bow-tie and Mustache. Appearing as “Uncle Bob” for the 2010 Photographer’s Ignite was as ridiculous as it was fun. Not only did I get to put together an absolutely heinous costume but writing (and re-writing) the script was a real passion project. Just another example of why I love this industry so much. (Try getting away with that at an accounting convention!)
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever seen or done in Vegas?
It has to be the heels. You know you’re a wild woman when you can pull off stilettos for an entire week at a convention the size of a small city. Now there’s some inspiration! (As for myself, I’ll be sporting something decidedly more comfortable. Zebra slippers anyone?)
