News: UPS Shipping Transition

1.14.16BLOG > What's New

We will be transitioning to UPS shipping from FedEx on January 20th, 2016. This change does not affect our commitment to free overnight shipping or our unrivaled turnaround times – orders will still ship UPS overnight for free. As you may recall from our Print pricing change last summer, our shipping costs have tripled in the last 15 years and we’ve spent many hours researching possible solutions to this challenge. This transistion allows us to continue providing free overnight shipping without raising prices in other areas of our service. One primary goal with this change is to offer you the ability to personalize your account preferences and provide more frequent shipping updates than we have ever offered before. With UPS My Choice, you can setup email/ text delivery alerts, tracking, rerouting and more.

As your business partner, it is essential that we openly address this change with you before it goes into effect. We are continuously exploring different avenues to improve our service to you and this change is the result of months of research and analysis. Miller’s is committed to helping your photography business flourish and we are confident that this change will make your life easier. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact customer service by phone at 1-800-835-0603 or by email at custserv@millerslab.com.

I agree with all the rest I have had such good service with Fed-x. They hold my packages I pick the up every morning at 9:00 am and am able to deliver orderd the same day. Am not happy at all changing to ups. Sure hope the same good service continues with ups.

Am not happy at all with the change to UPS. Service is not good here. Fed-x has a local office here and the held my pkgs and I picked them up at 9:00 am and was able to deliver the same day. UPS will not be here till aft. Cant pick up parcels at their terminal. Would have paid more for other services than lose Fed-x.

I share these concerns about the transition to UPS. The packages that I receive that are delivered by UPS are tossed on my porch. Any time it rains, I am worried about my UPS packages. FedEx deliveries are placed carefully in a safe and dry place, always. There is no comparison between the two services.

I love Millers, but one of the things that really makes you shine is your fast turn around time and delivery by FedEx. I feel like I am in great hands with Millers and FedEx, but I dread the switch to UPS.
Like the others who have shared concerns, I was under the impression that nothing would change when your prices increased…certainly nothing that would have such a big impact on the final impression that I make with my clients. Thank you for listening.

This is very disappointing. I can appreciate your commitment to keep costs low but UPS service is terrible in our area. The packages always come looking like they were punted around the warehouse. They are often left out in the rain with NO bag. I have never had to send any FedEx packages back for being damaged. I have had to send several back for UPS in just the last 6 weeks. This will end up costing Millers more money in the long run. This was one of the main reasons we use Millers because of the better shipping option. This made Millers a unique option since many others use UPS and they are terrible.

Jessika Feltz says:

Unlike the others, I am THRILLED about this change! We love UPS. Fedex is constantly misdelivering packages from Millers in Indiana. It’s happened to several photographer friends as well as myself. They also step on my packages and frequently damage them. This just goes to show you that each region has different levels of service. I also operate a print shop and see both my UPS and Fedex drivers DAILY. There’s definitely a higher level of service from UPS in my area.

So sad to hear this! I have had the same outstanding reliable FEDEX overnight driver for years! When UPS shows up, it’s always someone different and I don’t always find my packages in the same weather safe spot, that I do with FEDEX. This is a big let-down from Millers.

Miller's Support says:

Hi Mary, we appreciate your feedback regarding this transition. Please keep us informed with how this transition affects your business.

Not a fan of this switch. Fedex arrives on time, all the time. UPS service is very spotty, and I can’t count on a set delivery time for anything from them. I would rather pay a little more for Fedex than to make this switch.

Miller's Support says:

Hi Michelle, we appreciate your feedback. I’ll be sure to pass this along to our team.

Not happy about this switch either. Fedex arrives on time and usually before noon. UPS arrives as late as 6:00pm and is never reliable on the time of arrival. Having fast and reliable delivery from Fedex was a big perk to using Miller’s. I’m hoping this decision is changed soon. I love Miller’s, but I also loved Fedex.

I am pleased to learn of this transition. I live in a rural area and have had many problems with FedEx when a new or substitute driver was on our route. More than once I have had packages not arrive until a day or two after the expected date. Hopefully UPS will be more timely and accurate with deliveries.

Mary says:

I think this is a great idea. I used to work at our local UPS here in Eastern Oregon, sure packages get thrown around a little bit, but it’s gotten better and better
My friend delivers our UPS packages now and she’s always here on a timely manner and she never leaves anything out in the rain. If you order a lot of things that get delivered with UPS, there’s several options. You can befriend your local UPS driver to make sure they put your packages in a safe place. I ask our driver to leave them in our unlocked garage (which is closer for her than our front door), if there’s rain. Other’s buy big totes from WalMart and write in big letters UPS on them so that your driver can put your packages in there. Which will keep them off the porch too! Anyway, FedEx that has delivered to us so far has been super great but I have no beef with UPS either and I’m confident I won’t see a difference.

Chuck says:

I am concerned about security of packages left at the door and not requiring a signature. I have a downtown studio and, now after 35 yrs, open by appointment. Does UPS offer an alternate delivery address? If a package is left at the front door it will be gone or destroyed when school lets out.

Miller's Support says:

Hi Chuck, you can alter the address you have listed in our system.

Seems like I’m the minority in being excited for this change. FedEx, at least where I live, provides such sub-par service and I’ve always had better luck with UPS. Thank you Miller’s, I hope this transition is smooth!

Lourdes says:

OMG – the tracking numbers you have just sent me supposedly for UPS are linking to the US Postal Service website. I am so upset!!! I can’t even send these drop shipment tracking numbers to my customers – it will create chaos!!

I will lose sleep tonight!

Olivia says:

Thats because UPS uses USPS to deliver some of their packages! And you will not recieve a tracking number for that. The thing that upsets me the most is MILLERS IS NOT LISTENING TO THEIR FAITHFUL CLIENTS. when EVERYONE is saying the SAME thing, and they still proceed to use a crappy service, that really upsets me.
Yea, so not only do you have to deal with xrappy UPS, you have to deal with snail mail USPSm

tony says:

Love both service companies. We get a lot of goodies online and they come both UPS and Fed-Ex. Both are reliable and Im glad you were able to keep prices down. Hope it all works out. Love you guys! Y’all do a great job! Hook ‘Em Horns!
Tony

Katie Emery says:

Oh boy, I’m so unhappy about this. UPS is the same company that has lost our 200-year old family heirloom, my brother-in-law’s golf clubs (as well as his dog’s cremains), and many other assorted items. I ship a lot of items for my day job, and I insist on only using FedEx. Please reconsider this. Maybe switch to FedEx 2-Day or Express Saver, with a charge for those who want their orders overnight? Please reconsider.
And whatever you do, don’t use DHL – Yikes!!

Miller's Support says:

Thank you, Tony!

Miller's Support says:

Thanks for your feedback, Katherine!

Miller's Support says:

Hello Lourdes, I have emailed you so I can further investigate this matter.

Miller's Support says:

Thank you for your feedback, Katie.

Miller's Support says:

Hi Olivia, our items will ship via UPS Next Day Air Saver.

FedEx has been working out wonderfully, and I’m confident UPS can do the same. I truly appreciate your efforts in keeping costs low so that the shipping remains free. With all the print lab competition, this is just one of the things that keeps Miller’s on top for me.

Miller's Support says:

Thanks so much, Jennifer!

Hello, do we have any other options besides UPS to get our orders because my FIRST order today already has issues. Out for delivery since 8:26am and just received notice that an attempt was made at 8:31pm. NOT! I did not leave home all day and not even an info notice in case I didn’t hear them knock. This is not a good start for me with the switch.

Jill says:

I was really worried about this change as I have had terrible experiences with UPS in the past and mostly great with FedEx. However, I just received my first UPS package from Millers and it is absolutely pristine! It arrive on time and the box looks perfect. Let’s hope this continues and all the worry is for nothing.

Miller's Support says:

Thanks for the feedback, Jill!

Miller's Support says:

Hi Rodney, I’m sorry to hear of the inconvenience with your package. We do not offer any alternative methods to UPS at this time. I recommend contacting your local UPS office to ask about what happened with your package. If you continue to have difficulties, please notify our customer service team.

Susannah M. says:

I am very sorry to hear that Miller’s is switching to UPS. For one thing, I have never had FedEx lose or damage a package, and have had this happen frequently with UPS. Also, my FedEx deliveries conveniently come during mid-day, and can be counted on to arrive when they are supposed to. UPS never delivers at the same time and it is always very late in the day. Also, I hope none of the packages being delivered via UPS will go through the postal service, because I do not have any mail delivered to my physical address, and I don’t go to my PO Box more than once a week. The only deliveries I get to my physical address are from carriers such as FedEx or UPS…NOT USPS.

Mary Pacheco Photography says:

Is there a way to pay extra to still select Fed-Ex shipping? My local UPS is horrible. I am very concerned about getting my packages on time and in good condition. Fed-Ex was a big reason I’ve stuck with Miller’s for 8 years.

Miller's Support says:

Hi Mary, we do not offer that as an option at this time. I will pass this along to our team though. Please keep us informed with how this transition serves your business.

Miller's Support says:

Hello Susannah, your orders will be shipped via UPS (not USPS). We appreciate your feedback, please let us know how this transition goes for your business.

Brian says:

Ah, this is bad only because my local FedEx pick up center is a mile away. UPS? 25 miles and in a city that is hard to drive in and get to. BOOOOO!

Miller's Support says:

Hi Brian, thank you for your feedback. Please let us know how this transition affects your experience with our business.

I have used UPS in the past. I was not happy with it and am not happy with this change. Just today the UPS man left a very expensive package sitting on the front door of my studio. Even though we were closed, they along with Fed X have directions on how to leave the packages inside the studio door. UPS changes drivers so often and they simply do whats easy and fast. With UPS damaging my wall portraits they have had to replace six of them. Never has Fed x damaged a delivery. Never in all the years i have used Millers and they used Fed x.
If UPS pays its drivers 40% + more then fex x.. how can they do as good of job and do it for cheaper? I think in the end this will cost Millers customers.

Miller's Support says:

Hello Bradd, we appreciate your concern and I will share this with our staff. If you haven’t already done so, please familiarize yourself with UPS My Choice (https://www.ups.com/mychoice/welcome.html ) and it should improve your level of service.

Karri says:

I must agree that switching to UPS is a terrible idea. Every package I have gotten from UPS has been damaged in some way and their customer service is supbar. On the flip side, FedEx has always left my packages in excellent condition and makes sure they are safe from the elements (they bag every package that doesn’t fit under my overhang, something UPS doesn’t even do when it’s raining out).
Very concerned about the efficiency difference, too. Switch back… PLEASE!

Miller's Support says:

We appreciate your feedback, Karri. Please continue to let us know how this transition serves your business.

Freya says:

Another VERY unhappy customer here with this change… I was extremely happy with FedEx. I have experienced many issues with UPS. They have damaged/lost several of my packages, have inconsistent delivery times, never rings the doorbell, and may use USPS to deliver some packages.
Maybe it is the time for me to change to another lab. It is that big of a deal for me.

Miller's Support says:

Hello Freya, thank you for your feedback regarding our shipping transition. If you continue to experience difficulties with our deliveries, please let us know. We are closely monitoring this change and we appreciate your concern. We greatly value your business and we do not want to jeopardize that.

I have posted here and Facebook, and have spoken with your reps, and still I’m stuck with crappy delivery times from UPS. I spend a LOT of money with Miller’s and I have spent the past two hours researching a new lab to use, while waiting for over $1200 worth of your products in today’s late-again shipment. It is currently 5:25 pm and I’m out of patience.
